Minimalism:
Keys and wallet on top of the table. Supplies on top of your desk. Toothpaste on top of the sink.
Scene looks familiar?
Of course, it is.
We put stuff in the most accessible place because it saves us time—about 2 seconds.
Plus it’s very convenient and practical… Except that it’s not.
Enter the Convenience Fallacy.
Placing stuff on top of something can definitely save you time when you need them.
But what about the time when you don’t?
Small appliances
Supplies
Tools
Keys
Toiletries
They’re just sitting out at every counter and flat surface at home, ready to build a campfire for the night every single day.
The result?
They create a visual distraction, an unnoticeable cramped feeling.
And worse, they attract more clutter.
The “convenience” of saving 2 seconds of your time is not really convenient at all.
What can you do about it?
Find everything a home: store them in the proper drawer or cabinet or any storage
After all, when you brush your teeth, what’s an extra second or two to get the toothpaste and mouthwash when you need it, right? (Please agree)
Excerpt:
Okay this show is now my favorite comedy of all time. (The Office is a close second)
It’s called Schitt’s Creek. Here’s one of my favorite scenes from the show:
Of course, you’d appreciate it more when you watch every episode. But I’m sure you can get something from it.
Here’s mine: Your dreams, your needs, and your priorities change. And sometimes they do even without you knowing.
A time may come when you’ll question what the fuck are you here for.
When it does, remember this.
No matter how deep you are into something, and you really put your everything into it, you don’t always have to keep on going.
At some point, you may ask yourself, is this really something worth continuing? Is this something that I enjoy?
Or maybe it’s time to call it a day and put my efforts into another thing that I’m really interested in?
And between you and me, there’s really no clear-cut way of answering it.
But one thing’s for sure.
Whatever you pick, with the right intention and effort, it’ll be a way forward.
Actionable
How are your 2023 goals doing? Are you seeing progress or it’s pretty much the same as the last two years?
If it’s the same, I get it.
New year, new me is shit. Sorry, not sorry if you posted that on IG.
But let me tell you this, just give it time and a lot of effort.
And if you’re still finding it hard to be consistent this early in the year, put some fun in your goals.
Make a game out of it—keep scores and make punishments
Do it with someone. A partner, your friend, your neighbor, or anyone who can be on the same page as you.
In short, make it more enjoyable.
Heck, you can even document your progress. Write about it, shoot a video, and make a YouTube channel.
That’s a total win. You hit your goal plus a potential buttload of money!
Noteworthy
I saw this tweet yesterday:
In case you’re not familiar, this is from google trends.
It’s a tool used to see what people are searching for in a specific span of time and location.
Don’t worry I won’t go deeper into the numbers.
I just think it’s interesting how consistent the trend is.
Apparently, people are more interested in happiness in the early morning and sadness late at night,
My first thought when I saw this is that waking up early is a crucial factor in my happiness.
And it sucks that I woke up at 11:00 AM last Wednesday.
Anyway, if that’s what the data reflects, isn’t it reasonable to be more intentional in waking up early and sleeping early?
If you ask me, when it’s possible for you, you should do it.
I did that consistently last year and that was when I feel I’m in my best form mentally, spiritually, and physically. (tho it still didn’t get me six-pack abs)
So yes, I guess numbers really don’t lie.
But it also doesn’t show the whole story.
You can start waking up early and sleeping early but you still have to do the proper work in between.
That’s it for this Friday! BUT WAIT.
Before you go, do me a favor real quick: If you can relate to anything here (or the previous issues) share your story. You can message it on Social Media, post a comment below or reply to this email. K? Thanks!
Sincerely,
Johnrille
