Happy start of 2023! I bet you had an awesome and warm new year’s eve.
Whatever that is for you. I won’t judge.
Mine was a little different from my previous years. I only drank a couple of cups of wine.
Yes, wine. And yes, only a couple. That was new for me. (context: I’m a whiskey kinda guy)
Anyway. The New Year fever is here!
This is my first publish in 2023 and let me tell you, it’s exciting and refreshing.
I have this little fire in me that wants to start the year with a bang.
But no, I’m not gonna dance Ting Ting Tang Tang or anything like it, I’ll stick to writing. Thanks.
Especially now that typing these words gives me little butterflies.
And I think you know what it is—
The power of fresh starts.
It gives me an extra boost of motivation, a feeling of a clean slate.
Because god knows we need it.
The New Years are the closest thing we can get to a real-life CTRL + Z.
But of course, I’m here to burst my own bubble.
There’s no clean slate, no restart.
Only two things changed—the calendar and my perspective on writing online.
Here are some changes on the latter:
I’ll lessen the preachiness of my tone.
I won’t try to tell you “How to” but it’ll be more about “How I”.
Gotta thank Alex Hormozi for this.
It just makes more sense. Why?
Because I’m not a guru or an expert. It feels pretentious to teach you the hows of life.
What I can tell you are things that worked for me, how I became better at life and how I managed to lessen my daily overwhelm.
Because that is where I succeeded.
Hopefully, you can pick up a lesson or two.
Plus this is a public journal.
So not in a selfish and narcissistic way but there’ll be more about me.
I won’t be posting and writing as much on my FB page.
I’m gonna try to focus on Twitter instead.
The reason is simple. FB wants me to focus on videos and I’m not doing that any time soon. (But let me know if you think it’ll work better for you)
On the other hand, I’ve been enjoying Twitter for the past months.
I get to talk to people there and I put most of my notes to self as a tweet.
So if you have a Twitter, check mine out!
Now that we got that out of the way, let me share how I came up with that decision to change stuff:
You guessed it—New Year Fever.
While the year is young, I wanted to try something new, correct what I feel needs some correcting, and minimize the friction in my life.
That’s how I accomplished (most) of my goals in 2022.
So this year, I’m gonna continue applying them when working on my targets.
Here are the top 3 things I’ll remember this 2023.
Being flexible
As I went through last year, my whys, my process, and my goals changed a couple of times.
It doesn’t mean that they were wrong—they simply changed or faded.
Life is dynamic. So I had to work with what I had and find the right questions.
Questions like: What’s my best day look like? What’s important to me? Or What’s the next possible step?
Subtract
I’m an ambitious type. The one who wanted to reach as far as he could.
But as I go deep into living life minus the crap, I realized something.
I don’t need to add more to achieve more.
I don’t need all those productivity apps, those new techs, or get more tasks to feel needed.
What worked better is asking “what else can I remove?” and then removing it.
Balance the yes and no
Like you, I’ve already heard the importance of the art of saying No.
And I agree with that.
But the thing is, I unknowingly use my No as a shield and my comfort zone.
So I re-learned how to say Yes even to the toughest challenges.
In the end, I’ll either gonna win or learn.

And that’s about it. For the next 12 months, I’ll work my ass off to stay consistent.
Oh yes, that’s another thing—consistency.
My mental toughness was boosted due to that.
So this year, in every goal I have I must remember to:
Be flexible
Subtract
Balance the Yes and No
And then add a ton of consistency.
Sincerely,
Johnrille “New Year Fevered” Manalo
P.S. Feel free to use the comment section if you want to talk about something. Or send me an email. Or a message on Facebook or Twitter. I won’t bite. Happy new year!
Happy new year! Bringing these 3 reminders with me throughout 2023 ;)
